Online Bingo Netiquette

Netiquette is observing proper decorum at all times when dealing with other people online or on the internet. If there is an opportunity for a person online to interact with another person; be it indirectly by way of internet forums or through more direct means like chat rooms, that person must always observe proper netiquette.

Online Bingo is no exception. Online Bingos may be about fun and winning; but they are also about respect. After all, the goldern rule in Bingo is the more the merrier.

Online Bingo is a lot like the real thing. You play against other players; you play to have fun and win. Unlike live Bingos, no one can see the real you on the internet. They can only see how you conduct yourself during games, how you speak.

That is why a bit of netiquette goes a long way in online Bingo games or any game online for that matter. When you crack a joke, you use words only. They cannot see the expression on your face; they cannot hear the tone of your voice. This makes it easier to misinterpret the joke and instead of getting laughs, you may end up offending someone.

Online Bingo can be played by anyone from any part of the globe. Chances are you are playing against someone from another country. A good number of these players may come from non-English speaking countries. Even if they do come from English speaking countries, they may use the same words you speak in a way different from how you use them. Ever noticed that the British and Australians speak English differently from Americans even if they are technically English speaking nationalities as well? Or maybe someone from the East like New York compared to someone from the West like California?

A few simple rules to live by when playing online Bingo: • Do not assume anything

• As much as possible avoid capitalizing all your words; in text or chat speak, an all-caps word is pretty much like screaming

• Avoid strong punctuations like exclamation points or using quotations; it may seem like you are screaming or being condescending

• Use neutral words and avoid using words of religious significance like "holy" or "God"

• Do not be anal about grammar and spelling

Netiquette at first glance may not seem that significant but it can make your online games a lot more fun. It can make you a more likeable and popular person not just in real life but in the virtual world as well.
